Enrichment Programs
Building positive relationships with residents is the key to our success.
The Recreation Program provides a means for children to have fun, exercise, and learn teamwork. Hiking, community service events, arts and crafts and sports are all part of the program. The Recreation Director works closely with therapists and clinical teams so activities are planned in accordance with treatment guidelines. The program encourages each child’s need for self-expression, acquisition of new skills, and constructive use of leisure time. Through organized play residents learn cooperation, sharing and exchanging roles constructively, and exercising rules for fairness and in support of other social values. These skills are the building blocks for more complex and essential adult social competencies.
As children earn privileges, they may be selected to assist with coaching 2nd through 6th grade basketball and football. These residents have access to the Laramie Community Recreation Center, the local skating rink, and bowling alley. All students are encouraged to participate in day trips to the Snowy Range Mountains for hiking and fishing activities. They also participate in the annual Laramie Clean-up Day. Arts and crafts are a large part of our program, along with cooking, proper restaurant manners, and simulating a coffee house atmosphere of idea exchange and discussion.
