Events

Cathedral Home for Children puts on several events. Some are for kids and staff only; while others include alumni, donors and others affiliated with The Home.

Some of the events the staff and kids enjoy are:

Epiphany Dinner (January)
- A celebration of Epiphany
- A pot-luck style dinner
- Singing, skits and other entertainment put on by the kids
- Gifts from The Home at each cottage for all residents

Easter Egg Hunt (April)
- A traditional Easter egg hunt
- Chapel service
-A time for fun and relationship building

Kite Day (May)
- Kites are flown by the kids, staff and alumni
- Falls on the day after the Annual Awards Banquet
- A time for gathering, relaxing, and having fun after the previous nights festivities

School Graduation (June)
- High school graduation and 8th grade graduation
- Academic awards are received by residents
- Speeches about academic successes are given about graduating residents

Talent Show (August)
- An annual school event
- Any resident can enter the show
- Attended by residents and staff

Thanksgiving Dinner (November)
- A traditional dinner for kids and staff
- The feast is prepared by the cottages
- Residents and staff attend

Board Christmas Dinner (December)
- Board dinner with residents
- Encourages mentoring relationships between board members and residents

Cottage Christmases (December)
- A Christmas celebration held on each cottage for the residents who remain on campus
- Every resident who remains on cottage receives gifts from The Home and some community members
- Traditional Christmas dinner

Residential Graduations (throughout the year)
- For each resident when they graduate their program
- A formal celebration of the resident’s achievements
- Testament is given as to the accomplishments of the graduating resident

Events that welcome donors and community members include:

Annual Awards Banquet (May)
- Donors, community members, and former residents by invitation, all staff and residents attend
- Formal dinner with awards ceremony

Friend Raising Dinner (October)
- Semi-formal dinner
- Tickets are sold and the night consist of a guest speaker with the focus on youth needs and issues
- Donors, friends of The Home, prospective friends of The Home, and staff are welcome to attend

Our biggest event of the year is the Annual Awards Banquet. At this event donors, previous residents, current residents, staff, and others associated with The Home all come together to celebrate the achievements of our wonderful current and former residents. Scholarships for college or trade schools are awarded to former residents and many other awards are also given out. The awards given, range from personal achievements to academic achievements and include:
