Foster Grandparent Program
The Foster Grandparent Program is designed to match low-income seniors with children who will benefit from one-on-one attention. Senior volunteers are placed at schools, non-profit daycare centers, Head Start Programs, and youth centers. Cathedral Home for Children’s Foster Grandparent Program is a natural extension of CHC’s mission to help children and youth. Established in 1998, the Foster Grandparent Program serves Albany, Carbon, Sweetwater, Uinta, Lincoln, Sheridan, Campbell, and Johnson counties.
Requirements
- Must be 55 years old or older
- Meet income guidelines
- Able to volunteer 20 hours to work with children
- Willing to be fingerprinted
Most importantly, potential volunteers must possess a desire to make a positive impact on a child through tutoring, mentoring, and caring.
For their willingness to help children, Foster Grandparents receive:
- A non-taxable stipend that does not affect other senior benefits
- A meal while serving
- Supplemental insurance
- Sick & vacation time
- Transportation assistance
- holiday pay
All volunteers receive pre-service training and participate in on-going training sessions. They gather on a regular basis for instruction and fun. But the greatest benefit the Foster Grandparent Program has to offer is the satisfaction of helping young people in Wyoming.
