Our Mission - The Cathedral Home for Children

Breaking the Cycle of Violence, Despair, and Failure
The importance of relationships guides our philosophy and treatment. Each of the six cornerstones of our philosophy spring from an understanding of the need each person has for healthy relationships.
These cornerstones are:

  • Belonging

    • Creates a healthy social support network, a healthy sense of trust, and decreases abusive behaviors
  • Responsibility

    • Provides ownership of behaviors and emotions which leads to a successful journey through life
  • Autonomy

    • Creates an opportunity for youth to think independently and make choices based on the tools they are given
  • Hope

    • Creates joy, brings resiliency, and provides a sense of purpose for the present and future
  • Mastery

    • Creates an opportunity for accomplishment and competency in meeting challenges as well as daily goals
  • Spirituality

    • Allows children to reach out to others breaking free of self preoccupation as well as discovering new strengths within themselves, their relationships, and their beliefs

Cathedral Home provides the necessary skills for children to build healthy relationships with peers, staff members, teachers, and family members. A sense of belonging develops with the application of these new skills, along with participation in cottage life, individual and family counseling, therapeutic groups, school attendance, recreation, chapel, summer program, and a variety of other programs and events. Residents are given responsibility and autonomy in appropriately increasing amounts and are encouraged to show mastery over their lives and achievements. Each child is given hope for the future in individualized ways focused on strengths-based treatment planning and new possibilities each day. Every child at Cathedral home is encouraged to explore spirituality in ways that are meaningful to them.
