Recreation Program

Building positive relationships with residents is the key to success!

The Recreation Program provides a means for children to have fun, exercise, and learn teamwork. The Recreation Coordinator works closely with therapists and clinical teams, so activities are planned in accordance with treatment guidelines.

The program encourages each child’s need for self-expression, acquisition of new skills, and constructive use of leisure time. Through organized play, residents learn: cooperation, sharing, constructive role exchanging, and they exercise rules for fairness and in support of other social values. Proper restaurant manners are also part of our program. These skills are the building blocks for more complex and essential adult social competencies.
Some of the activities the children participate in/attend are:

• Hiking
• Mountain biking
• Bike trips to town
• UW cultural events
• Arts and Crafts
• Community Service Events
• Sports
• Roller and Ice Skating
• UW athletic events
• Baking

As children earn privileges, they may be selected to assist with coaching second through sixth grade basketball and football. These residents have access to the Laramie Community Recreation Center, the local ice and roller skating rinks, the library, and the bowling alley.
